Many people believe confidence is something you’re born with, but in reality, it’s a skill that can be learned! Confidence is nothing more than the story we tell ourselves about who we are in relation to the person we’re interacting with. In other words, it’s your perception of the power dynamic between you and the other person in a given interaction. And here’s the exciting part: you can change your outcome by mastering the skills that allow you to show up as your best self! Confidence is a state of mind, and with the right tools, it’s something YOU can shift instantly.
The Magnetic Power of Confidence
Confidence is magnetic—it naturally draws people in. On the other hand, a lack of confidence, no matter how well it’s disguised, tends to push people away. When you master the skills of confidence, you’ll show up with a presence that attracts others, even in uncomfortable situations. Interestingly, the ability to be comfortable and composed in the face of conflict or discomfort has even been linked to greater success and wealth.
How Confidence Works
So, how do you build this confidence? It starts with replacing the outdated scripts in your mind that no longer serve you with ones that fuel your confidence. The amygdala, our brain’s fear center, is designed to keep us safe by scanning for threats and preparing us to act quickly. When the brain encounters something that feels familiar (like a past threat), it uses memories of how we’ve survived in the past to react. However, these survival stories are often outdated, causing us to respond in ways that no longer serve us.
Our reactions are managed by the hypothalamus, making them automatic and unconscious. So, if these reactions are automatic, how can we change them? The answer lies in memory reconsolidation—a process that rewrites old, unhelpful patterns in the brain. By re-mapping these memories, you can effortlessly and permanently change how you react to triggering situations. Once the brain rewrites the story, it will naturally choose new, healthier response patterns. You don’t need to keep practicing or reminding yourself to act differently—your brain will do it for you!
Is it Really That Simple?
Yes! With the right guidance, we can uncover and re-map the memories that trigger negative reactions. You can start showing up as your most confident self in any situation. I’m living proof, and my clients can attest: this process will change your life!
